The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) reported the existence of 14 Atlantic salmon and trout farms with high spread of caligus (sea lice).
Under the Specific Caligidosis Health Monitoring and Control Programme (PSVEC Caligidosis), these 14 centres had an average weekly load that was higher than nine caligus parasites per specimen.
Out of the high caligus spread centres (CAD) that had been reported, one is undergoing harvesting phase — Punta Promontorio Centre, belonging to AquaChile –, while the remaining ones (13) are in the fattening phase.
Only two centres are farming rainbow trout and the remaining ones (12 centres) are farming Atlantic salmon.
